Holistic Health Counseling FAQs
What is a Holistic Health Counselor?
As a certified holistic health counselor my mission is to empower you to take control of your health and happiness through healthy living. This means deeply nourishing your mind, body and soul. What that means is I support the whole you. My goal is to make sure all of your foods are working as well as possible. Not only the foods you put in your mouth but also your Primary Food. "Primary Food" refers to your relationships, your career, your fitness routine, your spirituality, your self-care. These things have just as much an impact on your health as the foods you eat.
When both of these Foods are in balance, then you will feel wonderful. If one of these Foods are out of balance, then you may try to compensate with the other (for example, that's why you may go for sugar if you hate your job).
As a holistic health counselor, I believe there is no one right diet, each of us are unique. At the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I was trained in 40+ dietary theories from eastern and western medicine. There are certain aspects of each diet that I like and certain aspects I don't. But I want to be able to help my clients figure out what will work best for them. To do that, I need to be able to pick and choose from all the different nutrition theories out there to help my clients craft the diets that will work for them.
As a health counselor, my goal is to help you transition towards healthy eating, feel passionate about your job, take good self-care, design a workout you actually enjoy and feel nourished in your relationships.
What is your background and how did you become a holistic health counselor?

I have always had a passion for living a healthy life, though I was never clear about how I could turn that passion into a career. Before I found health counseling I graduated from Boston University’s business school and spent years in the fashion industry. While I completely enjoyed my time in the world of fashion, I did not have a sense of fulfillment and knew deep down there was something more meaningful that I was meant to do.
Two years ago while I was working in the industry, I was introduced to the sport of triathlon. While I had always played high school sports, I was never a runner, swimmer or cyclist. But I had the support to encourage me and make me realize that anything is possible if I put my mind to it. And so began my love of triathlon. I felt alive and energized in all aspects of my life. Was this what I had been searching for? This led me to begin my journey in finding optimal health. I stumbled upon the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and immediately knew I had found my life’s calling. I loved every single word on their literature; I just felt it in my gut. This was what I was meant to do in the world. I loved that the school teaches students that nutrition includes not only the food we eat but also our lifestyle choices. This made sense. I could see how being unsatisfied at work was leading to my afternoon snacking and sweet cravings.
While I still love being up to date on the latest fashion trends, my true passion is healthy living and empowering and inspiring my clients to create extraordinary lives for themselves.
Who will benefit most from your program?
I love working with people who are excited to try something new, motivated to make change and who want to create the best life for themselves.
Who is not likely to benefit?
Those looking for a quick fix and who are not willing to follow through and take responsibility are not likely to benefit from the program. This program is probably not for you if you are looking for me to do all the work and not show up for yourself. I like working with people who want to make change and make their health a priority because the truth is your life depends on it.
How can I guarantee to get the most out of the program and reach my goals?
To get the most of the program, much of your success depends on you. This program is not a quick fix but rather a life long lifestyle change. The best way to ensure results is to be honest about what is working and what is not, to follow the recommendations, and to show up to all your sessions on time.
